How to best help the Philippines
We are deeply heartened by our local community's efforts to support relief services for Typhoon Haiyan survivors.
Currently, the best thing to do is send money to reputable international relief organizations. We refer you to this article from Slate.com as to why money is what is needed now and is the best option we have in America to save lives.
The Little Manila board recommends these organizations to donate to:
- National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON)
- UNICEF
- The Salvation Army
- Catholic Relief Services
- Presbyterian Disaster Assistance
Also, you may consider referring to InterAction's list of member organizations currently providing relief services in the Philippines. The organizations on that list must meet a set of rigorous standards regarding financial management, governance, program performance, accountability and transparency in order to be a member of InterAction.
Please consider any of the above options to help and thank you for your support of our origin country and many of our family members.
