Urban Forestry
The Urban Forestry program offers support to residents of South Stockton dealing with poor air quality and under-canopied neighborhoods.
Urban Forestry offers support to South Stockton residents living in poor air quality, heat island, and under-canopied neighborhoods, providing them with workforce training opportunities in green careers, free trees for homes and businesses, and increased access to tree planting and maintenance events, and more so they can connect to their environment in new ways, experience a higher quality of life, and become an active contributor to greener and healthier neighborhoods.
Our Services
-
Green Paths is a 15-week paid training program where adults who are interested in Community and Urban Forestry careers can receive hands-on experience learning how to maintain, plant and care for trees. Trainees are recruited twice for a year for fall and spring cohorts where they work 24 hours per week learning about Stockton’s urban canopy. Recruitment opens in August and December for each cohort.
-
The My Free Tree Program expands tree planting efforts by partnering with property owners to identify, plant, and maintain residential and commercial property trees throughout South Stockton.
Eligibility to become a My Free Tree Steward is based on your address. Receiving a tree is contingent upon completing an in-person site assessment with a Community Forester and signing a maintenance agreement with Little Manila Rising and the City of Stockton.
